AT&T Buys DirecTV for $48.5 Billion

AT&T has just announced plans to buy DirecTV for $48.5 billion. With this merger, AT&T can finally take the fight to cable TV and start offering broadband services.

Speculators aren’t happy with this. Comcast is trying to buy Time Warner Cable and they’re facing troubles as it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if AT&T had to face the same troubles.

These huge businesses are trying to monopolize the industry. First Comcast with Time Warner, then YouTube/Google with Twitch, and now AT&T with DirecTV. The new motto is, “Don’t improve your service! Just buy out all the other ones.” This is exactly what our trustbusters were trying to prevent from ever happening again, and we’re just letting it. Services won’t improve if they just buy out all the other companies. We need more competition in the technology field, including telephone services and especially internet service.
