To Buy? Or Not to Buy? That is the question.

Hey there! This is Chris with a new game review! The game that is being reviewed today is, “Pokemon Battle Trozei”, which is currently $8 on the Nintendo eShop store for the 3Ds. The game was released on the eShop on March 20th, 2014. Well let’s get down to it then.

To start things off, the game runs rather smoothly, and the controls are fairly simple, with easy mechanics that almost anyone can learn. The best part about the game is that you have to think fast and move the Pokemon around very quickly. By moving each one until you make a horizontal or vertical line of three, four, five or even six of the same Pokemon, you can attack. Lining up three Pokemon is a weak attack on a single target, while four is a strong attack on a Pokemon. Now if you line up five its a weak attack on all the Pokemon you are battling. The last part of the battle system is when you line up four or more in a row and then the game automatically sets off a row of three you go into what the game calls a Trozei Chance. This is when you get a chance to empty the box for extra points as well as doing extra damage. Pokemon no longer have to be in rows of three, but in rows of two, and only have to be touching the same Pokemon in any way. This clears the box quickly, and as you get down to the last few, a ditto will drop. If you move the pieces, or Pokemon, quickly enough, you can clear the box. The box will then reset and you can keep your combo up by

still quickly making lines of 3 or more again. Other things to keep in mind as you battle is that each Pokemon is cut down to one main type. As you battle Pokemon, and you see the types that they are, keep their weaknesses in mind when you start to line up the first part of a combo. This is because that first line of Pokemon is what will be attacking for you. An example being that water beats rock. By using these type advantages, your points are doubled. But, be careful though. If it’s not effective then your points are halved. Now that the battle system has been explained, how does one “battle” a Pokemon in a puzzle game? The level sets itself up with a full box of Pokemon that looks like other puzzle games such as “Bejeweled” or “Candy Crush“. The difference being is that the pokemon sit on top of the box, or on the either side of it.As you build up attacks from the Pokemon you line up, you deal damage to the Pokemon until its Hp hits 0 and your Trozei (catch) it. If the battle has gone on for too long, and you still haven’t gotten a Trozei Chance, then the opposing Pokemon will continue to attack and you will lose.

Like “Candy Crush“, when you start the game you see an entire map with no locations on it, as you complete more and more levels, these areas will unlock.  The last thing there is to say about the game, is  how you can pick a support Pokemon, which you can change anytime outside of a level. When you select one, it tells you its attack power and shows what it looks like in the box as you match them up. The more you use a certain Pokemon, the more it will gain affection for you and appear more frequently in levels.

Now that you have a good idea of what the game play is like, let’s get down to some of the pros and cons of the game.

Pros:

  • It’s nice and easy to just pick up and play for a small amount of time.title
  • Trozei Chance requires a lot of quick thinking.
  • Plenty of levels to play.
  • High replayability.
  • All 755 Pokemon are included in the game.

Cons:

  • Not fun to play for long periods of time
  • Only about 5 music tracks in the game
  • Never really feels like you are advancing anywhere in the game
  • Bland level designs

Now let’s answer the question whether or not this game is a good buy. Throwing my opinion out there, I would say out of the $8 it is to buy, it’s worth $4 to me; simply because it’s not my kind of puzzle game. But don’t let that discourage you from buying the game, because this game is a good buy. This is simply because it’s like “Bejeweled“, or any other game that you can just sit down, play for a short period of time, and then get on with your day.

Thank you for reading my review of “Pokemon Trozei“! I hope you enjoyed it, leave a comment below on what you think of the game yourself. Hope you have a good rest of your day/night!
