This weeks Pokemon is Whimsicott! Whimsicott is known as the Windveiled Pokemon and is number #547 in the National PokeDex. It was released in Generation 5 (Unova Region) as the final evolution to Cottonee. To evolve Cottonee into Whimsicott, you have to expose it to a Sun Stone. Up until Generation 6 (Kalos Region) Whimsicott has been a pure Grass-type Pokemon. It’s fairy typing was added once they introduced Fairy types to the “Pokemon” games. In the “Omega Ruby” PokeDex it states that Whimsicott appears along whirlwinds and that they also enjoy pulling pranks such as moving furniture and leaving balls of cotton around. In the “Alpha Sapphire” PokeDex it says that, like the wind, it can slip through any gap, no matter how small. Also it leaves balls of cotton everywhere. So if you don’t want this thing getting into your house, then you better close those windows tightly.

This little ball of fluff stands at 2’4” and weighs 14.6 lbs. It’s supposed to resemble a ball of cotton and is the counter-part of Lilligant in the games. Whimsicott has a brown body and has a large amount of fluff on its backside. The curved horn-like things on its head seem to act as ears and it has orange eyes and a happy smile. There is what seems to be a scarf of fluff around its neck as well, connecting to the cotton on the backside of it. This pokemon is known to have a mischievous attitude and always like to play pranks on others.

Speaking of playing pranks, this Pokemon’s most famous competitive set is a Life Orb – Prankster set. Prankster is one of the abilities that Whimsicott can get. The moveset for the Life Orb – Prankster set is Moon Blast, Giga Drain, Hidden Power (Fire), and Encore. But depending on what other Pokemon you have on your team, you may want to run Tailwind instead of Encore. It should have a Timid nature and an E.V. spread of 4 Defense/ 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed. But you should know that this set is for an RU match. There is also just the normal Prankster set for Whimsicott as well, but it’s an Ubers set. It has the item LeftOvers and a Bold nature. The moveset is Leech Seed, Substitute, Encore, and Stun Spore. But you could run Taunt instead of Stun Spore though, just to prevent a set up sweep from any pokemon. It should have the Prankster ability and the E.V. spread of 252 HP/ 252 Defense/ 4 Special Defense. These things are annoying to go up against.

Whimsicott is a really fun Pokemon to use in competitive battling and its worth a shot at trying if you haven’t. It will most likely make your opponent rage, which is fun to do sometimes. I personally suggest using this Pokemon. No one expects a little ball of cute fluff to be a threat, so you can set up all day with it. It’s amazing. I love my Whimsicott and I’m sure you will too.
